Isuzu is offering their new gas powertrain in two models. The NRR is the first 19,500 lb. GVWR gas-powered truck with a low cab forward design on the market. It is joined by the NQR, which has a GVWR of 17,950 lbs. The cab-over-engine design of these trucks leaves more space on the frame for bodies. This lets customers utilize more space or choose a shorter wheelbase for better maneuverability. Available wheelbases range from 132.5 to 176 inches. Both trucks are available with a choice of two cabs. The standard cab offers seating for three people, and has space for a 20 foot body with the 176 inch chassis. The crew cab seats up to 7 people and has space for a 16 foot body with the longest available chassis.
Powering these trucks is a new 6.0 liter V8 supplied by Power Solutions International. It’s based on a Vortec V8 block, with modifications to meet Isuzu’s specifications for commercial use. This engine produces 311 HP and makes 351 lb-ft. of torque at 4,150 RPM. Power is sent to the rear axle by a 6 speed Allison 1000 RDS automatic transmission. This gearbox has a built-in PTO, a first for a gas-powered Isuzu truck. Both the NQR and NRR come with a 38.6 gallon stainless steel fuel tank that fits between the frame rails. Isuzu offers a 60 month/150,000 mile warranty on the powertrain and drivetrain.
